The bare minimum base for your container would be a compacted gravel base perhaps with some plastic reinforcing grids.
Timber sleepers, whether reclaimed or new, make for an easy option but will, after many years, need replacing.
Obviously longer lasting than the wooden variety but much harder to handle.
Simple concrete piers make an excellent choice you can purchase preformed tubes to fill with concrete or make the forms yourself from plywood. Concrete filled steel drums are also an excellent choice.
Obviously a very permanent option which offers excellent strength and durability. More costly than the previous options.
Again this provides a very permanent & solid foundation. Again a more expensive option.
